Ruins of Quilmes Day Trip + Tucumán Wineries Visit
Day Trip Details
We'll begin this day trip after picking you up from your hotel in Tafí del Valle. Once we're all ready, we'll begin a journey along winding roads towards the north. Ready to combine ancestral history with the exquisiteness of Tucumán wines?
After about a 30-minute journey, we'll reach the El Infiernillo stop, where we'll pause to admire the splendour of the valley from the viewpoint. The gentle curves of the landscape and the peaks silhouetted against the sky will give us the perfect moment to begin to connect with the nature of the region.
We'll then return to the vehicle and, after driving along routes 307 and 357, we'll arrive at the ruins of Quilmes, a heritage jewel of the original people who resisted the conquest for almost two centuries.
We'll walk with the guides of the indigenous community of the area, who will speak to us with deep passion about their ancestors. In addition, we'll soak up their history at the Quilmes Museum. During a 2-hour tour of this archaeological site, we'll explore the remains of dwellings, fortifications and terraces, and we'll be surrounded by cacti and ancient stones that still whisper tales of struggle and wisdom.
After this immersion in the past, we'll head to the Río de Arena ranch, where we'll immerse ourselves in the aromas and flavours of the Tucumán Wine Route. There, we'll visit the winery of the Río de Arena Estancia, where we'll see its Torrontés, Malbec and Reserva Malbec vineyards next to the Santa María River. Surrounded by hills, you'll have the opportunity to enjoy the typical gastronomy of the north by getting yourself some lunch.
Next, we'll go to the Las Arcas del Tolombón winery, which will amaze you with its bioclimatic architecture, inspired by Andean and African principles. During the visit, we'll see how this space fuses art, sustainability and cutting-edge winemaking technology at an altitude of over 1,700 m (5,577 ft).
After a 1-hour visit, we'll head to Amaicha del Valle to visit the Los Amaichas community winery, which stands out for being the first indigenous winery in Latin America. There, we'll take a 45-minute tour to understand how wine can be a tool for identity and roots. Its Malbec and Criollo grapes are transformed into Sumak Kawsay wine, the expression of an ancestral philosophy.
Finally, we'll head to Tafí del Valle to finish this 9-hour trip back at your hotel.
